TENDINOPATHY

this image shows the anatomy of the tendon.

Tendinopathy is a term used to describe a group of conditions that affect the tendons, which are the tough, fibrous bands of tissue that connect muscles to bones. Tendinopathy can be caused by overuse, aging, injury, or a combination of these factors.

The two most common types of tendinopathy are tendinitis and tendinosis. Tendinitis is an inflammation of the tendon, while tendinosis is a degeneration of the tendon tissue without inflammation.

Symptoms of tendinopathy may include pain, swelling, stiffness, and weakness in the affected area. Tendinopathy can occur in any tendon in the body, but it most commonly affects the Achilles tendon, rotator cuff tendons, and the tendons of the elbow (e.g. tennis elbow).

Treatment for tendinopathy usually involves a combination of ''hands-on'' treatments, shockwave therapy, ultrasound electrotherapy and exercise therapy.
